Scott Mouat Biography
Producer, Director and Director of Photography
Scott is a Director of Photography specialising in natural history. Over the past 2 years he has filmed for projects in China, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Borneo, New Zealand and Qatar, covering a range of genres including social documentary, natural history and drama.
Prior to working as a wildlife filmmaker Scott served as an officer in the British Army. After commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in August 1998 he served with the 1st Battalion The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) for 4 years, spending over 2 years on active service. After leaving the army he returned to New Zealand. In 2004 he completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Natural History Filmmaking at the University of Otago and went on to form ELWIN Productions.
Since then he has worked on a variety of productions for high profile production companies like Natural History New Zealand and Serious Pictures. He has also produced 2 independent films; Primeval Paradise and The Unnatural History of the Kakapo. He's experienced with a wide range of professional HD equipment including Varicam, HD Cam, the Ikegami Low Light camera and the Phantom High Speed camera.
In 2010 Scott was awarded best NZ Director and Best NZ Cinematographer at the Documentary Edge Film Festival in New Zealand for The Unnatural History of the Kakapo, a feature-length documentary on the world's rarest and most unusual wild parrot.
